If you would like to forward a domain address that you have to a different domain or subdomain, the best way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being redirected loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it's forwarded to. By doing this, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be directed to the site you have created, but it will also appear in the browser address bar at all times. Alternative possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain because this type of a record created for the main domain makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Website Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record with our Linux website hosting is extremely simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel has a section committed to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in only a few simple steps. There is also a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you many possibilities - if you create a company site on our end, for example, the workers can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up an Internet site by using a different company that offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain address hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have an on-line store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You'll be able to create, edit and delete CNAME records easily with all of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are controlled through the custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for any domain name or subdomain which you have added in your account. To set up a new record, you just need to pick the hostname that will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), type where it will be forwarded to, pick the record type, which will be CNAME in this case, and you are going to be all set. Even if you haven't used a web hosting service before, our CP is quite intuitive to use, so you'll not have any issues. We also have a short video and a detailed help article regarding how to create a CNAME record, both of which could be found in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this feature, you could easily use a domain hosted on our revolutionary cloud hosting platform for an Internet site created someplace else, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domain names, plus much more.
